Social sustainability: the social component of sustainability

Social Sustainability is intended to enable a stable society in which all members can participate with equal rights. It shall help ensure human dignity, as well as labour and human rights.

SMEs where people work offer work and social environments to them. Hence, the workplace plays a central role in social sustainability. It refers e.g. to aspects like:

  • compliance with labour rights,
  • social standards and
  • safety and health of employees implemented also at the workplace.

Within SMEs, the objective is: Equal opportunities, fair wages and treatment for all.
